Bicycle-Newsstands Will Move Around Tbilisi

February 8, 2012

Bicycle-newsstands will move around Tbilisi from February 7. Today, Organization in Support of Free Press sold newspapers and magazines near the underground station Rustaveli with the new method.

The newspapers were also distributed from press-carts, which have been moving in the capital for several months already in framework of the event dedicated to the popularization of the press.

Newspaper Resonance’s editor-in-chief Lasha Tugushi told the Interpresnews that similar actions will reinforce printed media.

“It will be better if we have more chance to sell newspapers. Particularly, if we use such extraordinary, weird and modern methods of distribution. With today’s event we would like to tell everybody that we are not going to yield the printed media. We will find some more effective and strong measures to make the newspapers available for general population. With the event we tell our readers that we serve them and we will do our best to guarantee their right to receive independent information about ongoing events,” said Lasha Tugushi.

Expert Gia Khukhashvili also participated in the event. He said entire society shall unify to protect all sources for the distribution of alternative information.

“Today, the government started final struggle against free media and tries to seize final resources from them. Everybody remembers story about press-booths and if we want to realize our orients, democracy and freedom of speech, everybody shall take part in the process to protect all sources of the distribution of alternative information,” said Gia Khukhashvili.

The assembly lasted about one hour near the Metro Rustaveli. The readers liked the new method of press-distribution and bought magazines and newspapers from bicycle-newsstands.
