Rustavi 2 to Quit Global TV after Imedi TV

March 19, 2012

TV-Company Rustavi 2 will cease broadcasting for the subscribers of the Cable television Global TV on March 27. Zurab Bazlidze, development and marketing director of the Global TV Zurab Bazlidze told Interpresnews about it.

He added that after TV Company Imedi the Rustavi 2 also sent letter to the Global TV and requested to cease their broadcasting from March 27.

Zurab Bazlidze said that in their petition Rustavi 2 clarified their request by their cooperation with cable television Caucasus TV; TV-Company Imedi clarified their request by their cooperation with BlackSea Sati which does not broadcast at the moment.

According to Bazaladze, the national TV-Channels started this trend after Global TV notified the Georgian National Communications Commission about their cooperation agreement signed with the Channel 9 on March 9.

Zurab Bazlidze believes the TV-Companies breached the subscribers’ rights with their decision. According to him, although subscribers have not quit the Global TV so far, the Company intends to offer new tariff packet and alternative TV-Companies to its subscribers.

TV-Company “Imedi” stopped broadcasting for the subscribers of the Global TV from March 15.
