International Charity Foundation ‘Komagi’ complains about government’s attempt to oppress on people and released statement.
“The government started oppression on people who have applied to the Komagi Foundation for help. Namely, according to our information, on 9 June these people were summoned to police stations and were interrogated. They were taken to the office of Special Operation Department MIA under force. People were not told motive of their interrogation. They could not have access to defense. In some cases interrogation lasted for ten hours. These people and their family members were in unclear and stressful situation. Officers asked them provocative questions that aimed to discredit Komagi Foundation. It is alarming that officers did not care about age and healthcare of the summoned people. Namely, although there was no urgent necessity to interrogate one particular person, he was taken to the SOD office from hospital.
We appeal to Public Defender of Georgia, nongovernmental, human rights and international organizations, embassies and media organizations for help. We believe the government’s activities aim to intimidated people.
Komagi Foundation again underlines that the purposes of the Foundation are open and transparent; it does not serve interests of any political party and acts in accordance to the law. Consequently, we declare that every accusation of the government against Komagi Foundation is next provocation against generous goals of the Foundaiton. We again appeal to you to take urgent measures to stop violation of our citizens’ rights,” the statement of the Foundation reads which was signed by Ia Metreveli, chairwoman.
