Davit Usupashvili: “Workers not magicians to finish new building of the parliament in a day”

October 17, 2012

Shorena Kakabadze, Kutaisi

First session of the eighth convocation of the parliament will start at 13:00 on October 21, 2012 in Kutaisi based new building of the legislative body of Georgia. In order to see whether the building was ready to host first session of legislators, members of the parliamentary majority arrived in Kutaisi on October 16. They checked the new building of the parliament and the general situation in it on the place.

“Nowadays, the building of the parliament is a huge construction ground. Workers are not magicians to finish the work, which requires several months, in several days. Although they received instructions from the previous government, it must be noted that it was impossible to implement them,” said a leader of the Coalition Georgian Dream Davit Usupashvili.

Chairman of the new convocation parliament said workers promised them to finish some construction activities before the first session.

“We did not have an illusion that ongoing construction activities were finished in the parliament. In the contrary, we knew that only minimal work was possible to be done in such a short time. However, we checked the situation on the place and saw whether the building is ready to host the first session. We talked with workers who are working at an unbelievable speed. They clarified that they would not be able to accomplish the outside perimeter of the building before the first session though we will manage to hold session,” Coalition members said.

They clarified that current situation in the new building of the parliament is far from the working environment. However, there will not be any problem – the session will be held and parliament will implement its function on the background of ongoing construction activities.

“The people working in the parliament’s office will do their best to ensure holding of the first session in normal environment. Although we will have to work in field conditions, I would like it to be the only problem we inherited from the previous government,” said Davit Usupashvili.

Members of the Coalition Georgian Dream - Eka Beselia, Manana Kobakhidze, Zviad Dzidziguri and others- clarified that parliament will function – first session will be held in Kutaisi but finally the legislative body will be located close to the government.”
