Law Enforcement Officers Arrested Zviad Khvedelidze of the Georgian Dream

November 27, 2012

Patrol police officers arrested member of the Georgian Dream’s Lagodekhi office Zviad Khvedelidze in Tbilisi Airport. He arrived to Georgia from Belarus. He was sought by Georgian MIA. The detainee was taken to Gldani isolator. He has not hired a lawyer yet.

Zviad Khvedelidze fled from Georgia 10 months ago. He said senior officials of the Kakheti regional office of the Constitutional Security Department of MIA compelled him to be their spy before elections. After fleeing from Georgia, Gurjaani district prosecutor’s office blamed him in the rape of a woman; on January 12, 2012 the Gurjaani court sentenced him to imprisonment of 4 years and 6 months in absence.

ICK carried out journalistic investigation on Khvedelidze’s case. The evidence collected by the ICK proved that Khvedelidze was trapped by the CSD. He was charged for the attempted rape; the victim woman is former prisoner, who was pardoned by president; she cooperated with the CSD.
