Georgia’s Defence Minister dismissed the Chief of the Senaki Military Police and several police officers because of the incident in Tsikhisdziri village - a statement from the Defence Ministry says.
‘Some military police officers acted irresponsibly in Kobuleti, Adjara region. Three police officers, which took part in the incident in Kobuleti, and the chief of the Senaki Military Police, were dismissed based on the Defence Minister’s order. Head of Senaki military police, who could not ensure discipline of the subordinate police officers, was fired too. Everybody is equal to the law moreover, those who are authorized to protect the law and wears military uniform’, the statement reads.
Several people were assaulted by Military police officers in Tsikhisdziri village in Kobuleti, Adjara region of Georgia.
Batumi deputy prosecutor Zaza Metonidze told IPN that investigation was launched into the case under Article 118 Part I of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
According to him, shootings took place when the police officers beat several people in Tsikhisdziri and then left for Samegrelo region.
“We started investigation into physical assault, Article 118 Part I of the Law. Senaki military police officers were at their colleague’s house, where they stopped few minutes and then left. There were two locals sitting in their car who had showed them their colleague’s house. Militaries stopped the car in the street, physically assaulted the locals sitting in their car and they even fired. After the incident, they abused a person who was walking together with his wife. Besides that, they searched one of the citizens’ car and drove towards Samegrelo”,-stated Zaza Metonidze.
