Ucha Nanuashvili – Public Exposure of These Videos will Cause Uncontrollable Consequences

July 8, 2013

“I think it was enough to show these videos few times to various public groups considering that their frequent release will cause uncontrollable consequences,” – Ombudsman Ucha Nanuashvili stated at the meeting with journalists in the press club of Kakheti Information Center.

“If people see this on TV, it will cause serious consequences. We have to think what happens after these videos are exposed to public. We are talking about crimes of grave character. I felt bad for several days after seeing several scenes. I do not wish that anybody sees similar scenes ever in life,” – Ombudsman noted.

According to Ombudsman, his position is the same as before that the video material secretly filming private lives must be destroyed.

“Illegally obtained videos depicting private lives of people must be destroyed. However, there are many videos depicting the signs of concrete crimes. Regarding these facts the investigation must be conducted and it must be ascertained who ordered and who fulfilled these crimes,” – Nanuashvili noted.

According to information disseminated by MIA on June 17th, law-enforcement discovered videos stored in special hiding place in Samegrelo depicting grave torture, sexual violence, beating and inhuman treatment of people who were opposing the prior government. The explosives, firearms and guns, as well as drugs and strong psychotropic medicaments were also discovered. On June 19th, MIA detained 9 individuals related to this case including two officials of Defense Ministry who were still holding their jobs, two former policemen and two people who were depicted in the videos raping other people. The Court imposed imprisonment as compulsory measure against the detainees. On June 22nd, Ministry of Internal Affairs Irakli Gharibashvili stated that they discovered four more stores in Samegrelo which contain similar video materials and documents.
