After the election prisoner’s suits have not been submitted to the Strasbourg Court - Tea Tsulukiani

July 9, 2013

After the election prisoner’s suits have not been submitted to the Strasbourg Court, Minister of Justice Tea Tsulukiani said at the presentation of the project Human rights in prisons and other closed institutions at the Holiday Inn hotel.

According to Tsulukiani, just few suits have entered the European Court of Human Rights, which is due to the implemented reforms.

Tea Tsulukiani said the decrease of complaints was conditioned by the steps taken in the penitentiary institutions, the implemented reforms and the large-scale amnesty.

"This amnesty was followed by much criticism, but I still welcome it. Of course, release of a few people was an error, but a lot of people deserved it. We are a nation which dared to use the PACE criteria with regard to political prisoners," said Tea Tsulukiani.
