Controversy at Lanchkhuti District Office of the Georgian Dream Continues

September 17, 2013

Nino Mshvidobadze, Guria

Two days before Giorgi Margvelashvili’s visit to Lanchkhuti district, attorney of Aketi village Gulnara Chichua threatened with burning herself. She opposed Gogi Kheladze, head of the election HQ of the Georgian Dream’s presidential candidate in Lanchkhuti; Kheladze was introduced to local population several days ago in Georgian Dream’s Lanchkhuti office.

Gulnara Chichua told humanrights.ge that she requests resignation of Gogi Kheladze because he has ties with the United National Movement.

“Members of National Movement got hold of precinct election commissions and Bakradze will win elections. The election commissions were staffed with the representatives of the National Movement; the situation is the same in every village. Now I can speak about this problem because working hours have finished and want to declare that everybody turned up a betrayer. Head of Georgian Dream’s office Gogi Kheladze and Free Democrats betrayed us. Unless Kheladze resigns, I will burn myself. He is short in time and must resign soon,” Chichua said.

Humanrights.ge contacted Gogi Kheladze: “It is not true that I have ties with the UNM. Supposedly, some people are interested in imposing groundless accusations on me,” Kheladze said.

Deputy district governor Vakhtang Zenaishvili held a press-conference regarding this issue and said that a group of people tries to tense situation:

“Aketi village attorney Gulnara Chichua was protesting election of precinct commission members during working hours. Although we had warned attorneys not to interfere in the election campaign, some of them did not obey our instructions. Special commission will study this case. Some people try to artificially tense situation,” Zenaishvili said.
