Fight with Election Posters

October 26, 2013

Nino Mshvidobadze, Lanchkhuti

Leader of the United National Movement’s Lanchkhuti office Kakha Askurava informed humanrights.ge about the “war of posters” in the town center. He said posters of the Georgian Dream were placed over Davit Bakradze’s posters on the window-glasses of the buildings between the monument of “Rebel from Guria” and police office.

Nugzar Tsintsadze from the Georgian Dream said he had put up Margvelashvili’s posters over Bakradze’s posters: “Yes it is true; I personally put up Margvelashvili’s posters over them. I believe that election posters of this political party will not be in Georgia. Where I will see their posters, I will remove them. National Movement finished its existence in the country; they belong to history,” Tsintsadze said.

Askurava and GD members Nugzar Tsintsadze and Giorgi Zenaishvili had controversy, when they arrived at the spot to find out the situation.

Kakha Askurava said it is shameful fact and claimed that Giorgi Zenaishvili had insulted him. “I rebuked GD members when I arrived there for what they insulted me. I could not stand it and replied back. Unfortunately, the incident occurred next to the police office,” Askurava said.

Later, Giorgi Vashadze of the UNM responded to this fact, when he arrived in Ozurgeti to take part in Bakradze’s pre-election meeting. “We categorically request to investigate this fact and put an end to the violence. We will not abandon any of our colleagues and every similar fact will be investigated,” Vashadze said.

Humanrights.ge contacted Lanchkhuti DEC # 61 Zviad Nakaidze regarding the issue. He said the DEC has passed relevant resolution on the fact and lawyer of the Legal Service at the district administration Tamar Pirtskhalaishvili will study facts related with the posters during pre-election period. “It is not within the DEC competence to study this case. Since it refers to the posters, the district administration is responsible for it, because they allocated places for the posters in the town. Lawyer Tamar Pirtskhalaishvili is responsible person for the posters’ issue there,” Nakaidze said.

Humanrights.ge asked Tamar Pirtskhalaishvili to comment on the issue: “We started administrative proceedings on the fact. We study every detail, questioned every party and supposedly we will know next week, who breached the law,” Tamar Pirtskhalaishvili said.
