Deputy Governor of Gori Threatens Journalist

March 21, 2006

Photo Correspondent of Rustavi-based Newspaper "Inpormatory" was "Imprisoned"

Correspondent of Rustavi-based newspaper "Inpormatori" Zviad Kechakmadze was imprisoned by the security guard of Chemists' Sports Palace for half an hour.

Kechakmadze was taking photos of the building's gates for the article dedicated to the closing down of that Palace. While he was doing his job one of the guards "burst out" of the building and demanded that correspondent stop taking pictures.

"I told him I didn't take "important" pictures, I showed the photos and explained that they were intended for the newspaper, but he was so drunk I couldn't make him understand, he wanted to take away my camera, but I didn't give it to him so he said I had to stay in the building" - Kechakmadze said.

According to him, he was kept inside the building for half an hour, he was released only after he contacted Rustavi Vice Mayor Zaza Suladze and Rustavi police.
