Corrupted Public Officials in Gori Distict Released from Prison Before Elections

The Human Rights Center’s Gori office was able to access information conforming that former public officials of Gori district has been released from their prison sentence. Already they have found employment as commission members for the ruling National Movement.

One of those recently freed is Vasil Makharashvili who was arrested for corruption by Shida Kartli regional Prosecutor’s Office on September 12 2007..

Rezo Jobadze, former Khashuri district governor, who was arrested in 2006.  He was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Another inmate, Koba Kakashvili, deputy chairperson of the election commission in the village of Skra and Soso Muradashvili, deputy chairperson of the Election Commission # 60, was also released from prison.

All of the now freed prisoners  were team members of Irakli Okruashvili, former Defense Minister of Georgia. Criminal case against those people were launched after Okruashvili established a new political party.
