Budget of Defense Minister Is More Than Allowed

The non-governmental organization “Human Rights Center” published a report “Explosive Billion” which studied the issues in regard to the budget of the Defense Ministry of Georgia. More precisely, the report compares the allocated budget of the Defense Ministry with other Ministries, It reports that the Ministry of Education has 11 times less budget than the Defense Ministry; the Public Defender’s Office has 258 times less budget and the Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation has 20 times less, the Ministry of Agriculture has 10 times less, and the Ministry of Environment 20 times less budget than the Ministry of Defense. The report compares the budget of the Georgian Ministry of Defense with the budget of similar institutions in the NATO member states.   While the budgets of the Defense Ministries in the NATO member states are 2 % of the total state budgets, in Georgia it is 14 % of the budget.
