Nino Burjanadze Reported Amiran and Tariel Bitzadze Are Detained in Rustavi

May 29, 2009

“At this moment, in Rustavi two sportsmen –Amiran and Tariel Bitsadzes are being arrested in their houses. I will personally go there and will not allow law enforcers to arrest them,” said Nino Burjanadze, leader of the Democratic Movement for the United Georgia at the demonstration in front of the parliament.

Nino Burjanadze stated that she would not allow the government to arrest innocent people.

“These people have not done anything wrong. I am applying to Vano Merabishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs, leave these people alone. We will go to Tbilisi and I wonder if you dare go and arrest these people. If they have committed crime prove it and we will bring them to police ourselves. Otherwise, we will not allow you to detain innocent people and we will protect them,” said Nino Burjanadze and went to Rustavi from the Rustaveli Avenue.

Burjanadze stated that sending of so-called zonder-brigades to disperse demonstrators in Purtseladze Street was reply of Merabishvili to the appeal of the Patriarch.

“We were preparing for concert. Children are with us and nobody was going to use force here. The government is responsible for this incident. The more stupid steps will be taken by the government, the sooner their authority will finish. Merasbishvili held the meeting where they decided to start physical assault. We will protect ourselves. If it is necessary we will create structures which will rule the country honorably after they resign,” said Nino Burjanadze.
