Givi Targamadze: We Really Took 300 People to Donetsk

January 20, 2010

Givi Targamadze said he often speaks with the Minister of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili, but he does not remember all of them.

The head of Security and Defense Committee of Georgian Parliament said about it when he commented about audio-recording of his phone conversation with Vano Merabishvili, which was published in Ukrainian outlets.

“I speak with Vano Merabishvili quiet often but do not remember all of them. We really sent 300 people to Donetsk for technical issues and this was not a secret” said Targamadze.

According to him, one of the members of the “Party for Regions” stated in the Ukrainian parliament that he had several recordings of phone conversations of Givi Targamadze and requested MPs to listen to it.

“Common sense has won and MPs expressed no desire to listen to the recordings. I can say that I use mobile intensively and if someone is interested to listen to my private conversations, I am not against. I think that it is more important for Ukraine to concentrate on important decisions than to waste time on listening to my phone conversations,” said Targamadze.

According to Georgian MP, Ukraine should choose its direction which will lead the country to the integration in democratic world.

Ukrainian MP from “Regions Party” Vladimer Zivkovich insists he had recordings of phone conversations between Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Vano Merabishvili and MP Givi Targamadze and also between Targamadze and certain Konstantine.

According to MP Zivkovich, recording released by “Business Ukraine”, confirms that Georgian high-ranking officials intended to send 2 000 observers to Ukraine to falsify parliamentary elections.

According to the published audio-recording, Vano Merabishvili told Givi Targamadze “call Iulia and others. How should I take 1000 person there? Tell them to prepare airplanes for the second round; they cannot cancel all flights. I want to send 200-300 persons but it is difficult with our planes.

Zivkovich said he received the audio recording from media outlets. However, Security Service and General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine also have these recordings.

Party of Iulia Timoshenko refuses to comment on the mentioned recordings.
