Member of the Election Commission Blames the Chairperson in Oppression

May 17, 2010
Election commission member from the Republic Party in the polling station of the village of Zemo Magharo in Sighnaghi district Lali Janikashvili blames the commission chairman Giorgi Varsimashvili in oppression.

Lali Janikashvili said she found some shortcomings in the voters’ list in the polling station.

“Voters from the polling stations # 26 and # 34 are registered in the polling station # 24 in Zemo Magaro village too. Every polling station has limit. There are total 215 voters in the polling station # 25, among them 43 belong to the polling stations # 24 and # 34. For example, Vasil Aivazov went to Russia 6 years ago but he is registered in the election list of both PS # 24 of the village of Ulianovka and in the PS # 25 in Zemov Magaro. When I was studying these shortcomings, the chairman of the PS threatened me with firing me from the commission unless I keep quite. They need duplication of voters in order to rig election results in Zemo Magaro. Everything is done according to the special order of the president because Zemo Magaro is a native village of Davit Usupashvili, leader of the Republic Party, and the president wants to defeat the Republic Party in this village,” said Lali Janikashvili.

The commission chairperson Giorgi Varsimashvili denies the accusations of the commission member.

It is noteworthy that during the parliamentary elections of May 21, 2008 Lali Janikashvili was member of the Sighnaghi district election commission. When Janikashvili arrived at the polling station in Zemo Magharo village, the special unit of the ministry of internal affairs forced her out of the building.
