Different Information Spread about Current Situation in Perevi

 Different information is spread about the current situation in the Perevi village in Sachkhere district. According to the information spread on October 17, the Russian frontiers have already started to leave the territory and they withdrew the equipment from their cheickpoints. In addition, they dismantled both tollgates at the entrance of the village.

On October 18, the Perevi residents reported to the “Inerpresnews” that supposedly two Russian frontiers will patrol at the border after the abolishment of the checkpoints. The local inhabitants also reported that Russian frontiers had stated about it in private conversation with them.

“This morning they allowed us to pass through the checkpoint without any examination. They neither asked to show document nor registered us. They just looked into our bus. Only two soldiers patrol at the post. They said they might not leave Perevi at all and two frontiers would permanently stand at the checkpoint. However, they will not check passports and register people in future”, the Perevi residents stated.

Control was reduced at the Russian checkpoint at the entrance of the Perevi village of Sachkhere district on October 7, 2010.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia confirmed information about withdrawal of Russian soldiers from Perevi checkpoints.

Head of the analytical department of the MIA Shota utiashvili stated that according to their information, control was reduced at the Russian checkpoint in Perevi.

“We observe their activities. Unfortunately, they have not left the village yet. When Russian militaries leave Perevi, we will enter there together with the EU monitors”, Utiashvili stated and noted that the exact date of final withdrawal is not known yet.

On October 17, after the thirteenth round of GENEVA negotiations ended, the head of the Russian delegation Grigor Karasin stated that Russian frontiers will leave the Perevi village of Schkhere district in the nearest days and they will deploy their soldiers at the border of the so-called South Ossetian border
