Government Cannot Answer Why Pension Is Not Increased for Every Pensioner?

November 25, 2011

The question of the opposition parties – Why is not pension increased for every pensioner? – remained without answer at the governmental session in the Parliament of Georgia.

The MPs asked the question to Minister of Healthcare Andria Urushadze at the plenary session.

More precisely, they wondered why the government intends to increase pensions only for the disabled people of the first group and retired people over 67 and why their initiative did not work for other categories – disabled people, veterans, the families whose bread-winners died during the fights for territorial integrity and others.

Urushadze clarified that “increase of pension is not a single act and it is sequential step taken by the government.”

He recalled the period before the Rose Revolution when the pension was 14 GEL and noted that the “pension has been increasing since then.”

“This trend has not dropped. This process has its regulation. We promised our citizens to ensure their honorable aging and we are keeping this promise,” said Urushadze though did not clarify the reason why pensions for every pensioner were not increased.
