Ruin of National Municipal Boards Started in Kvemo Kartli

After elections, personnel changes started in the municipal boards of different regions. Considering the fact that municipal boards were staffed with the members of the National Movement as a result of last self-governmental elections, the former ruling party still maintains decision-makers’ positions in district boards.

At the same time, members of National Movement actively left municipal boards in different regions and/or join Georgian Dream or remain as independent members of the boards.

So-called ruin process of the National Movement’s municipal boards started in Kvemo Kartli too. Humanrights.ge learned that new opposition fraction is about to be set up in Marneuli municipal board. The members of the fraction will be people who joined the board from the National Movement.

“I can confirm that creation of new opposition fraction in Marneuli municipal board is really discussed about. You know four board members represent opposition party; they have four-member fraction. I do not know whether some other people will join them if they set up separate fraction. Of course, we will not create problems for anybody. As far as I know, board members from our National Movement wished to set up the fraction. They were active at the last session and they had controversial opinions on many issues. In the past they thought in different way,” said deputy chairman of the Marneuli municipal board Mamuka Doreuli.

He added that after elections Georgian Dream members have not oppressed him and other members of municipal board. “Hopefully, the situation will not change for worse. We wish the board members, who intend to set up a new fraction, not to influence other board members too. Everybody shall make decisions independently,” said Doreuli.

Marneuli district governor Zaza Dekanoidze has unofficial information about creation of new opposition fraction in the municipal board. “I cannot name those people. As far as I know these people have not finally made up their minds. We can say only one thing- we will not create obstacles for them. Just the opposite- we will assist them in their future activities.”

One of those board-members who intend to set up a new fraction is Roman Tabatadze. He joined the municipal board from the former ruling party. Tabatadze made over-phone comment on the issue with humanrights.ge. “I confirm that I am going to set up a new opposition fraction in Marneuli municipal board. It will be soon decided how many people will join it. As for the decision, I have wanted to set up this fraction for a long time. It is my number one wish. I respond to those significant amendments which occurred in the country.”

Some changes are intended in the municipal boards of Rustavi and Bolnisi too. A new opposition fraction Rustaveli was set up in the Rustavi municipal board. The new fraction was created in Bolnisi municipal board too – “Bidzina Ivanishvili- Georgian Dream.”
