Bunikauri Population Blocked Road

January 31, 2013

On January 30, local population blocked road in Bunikauri village in Chiatura district. They request repair of the road and resolution of ecological problems.

The villagers allege Company Georgian Manganese has been obtaining manganum through open quarry method for many years; this process damaged the road and created many ecological problems.

In the second half of the day population blocked the road with the request to resolve their problems. Later, representatives of the Georgian Manganese and Chiatura district majoritarian MP Malkhaz Tsereteli met protesters.

“It is vandalism what is happening here and everybody shall take part in the timely resolution of this problem,” said Tsereteli.

Representatives of the Georgian Manganese also conversed with the villagers and promised to resolve problems.
