Gori Residents Fight with the Impact of Natural Disaster

April 1, 2013

Saba Tsitsikashvili, Gori

On March 24, strong wind removed roofs of about 35 residential buildings in Gori.  Local budget cancelled several projects on that purpose and allocated 1,5 million lari for the rehabilitation activities.

Being in Gori, premier-minister said new roofs will be installed with better technologies. According to the Minister of Finance Nodar Khaduri, March 24 natural disaster damaged mostly those buildings, which were roofed by the funds allocated by the National Movement in pre-election period of 2012. Three companies –“Oda”, “Seni” and “Ori Dato” carried out rehabilitation activities at that time.

Ltd “Oda”, “Seni” and “Ori Dato” received almost 1 800 000 GEL from the former government for the rehabilitation activities throughout 2012. These roofs are so damaged by natural disaster, that local municipality decided to completely change them.

Minister of regional infrastructure and development of Georgia Davit Narmania and Minister of Energy Kakhi Kaladze monitored rehabilitation activities in Gori. They visited almost every building which are being rehabilitated. Head of Infrastructure Service at Gori district adminsitration Davit Gorgisheli told the ministers that they involved local building companies in the ongoing rehabilitation works.

“I am satisfied with the work, the only thing I want to ask the local government is to high more workers,” Kaladze said and underlined the poor work done by the previous government.

Minister of the regional development Davit Narmania noted that quality is the most important. “Look at our materials and previous ones and compare them with each other. Premier-minister gave strict instruction to pay particular attention to the quality,” said Narmania.

On March 24, strong wind damaged 110 buildings in the villages of Gori district and 35 residential buildings in Gori. The commission has already finished evaluation of the damage and concluded that 23 000 sq meters of roof was damaged.

Nowadays, rehabilitation of roofs is being implemented by 3 building companies-“Mshenebeli”, “Gormsheni” and “Alonisi”. The former two implemented rehabilitation activities during the previous government too.

“Alonis” has following experience: it repaired rooms in Gori district in 2012 and chimneys of the public school in the village of Akhaldaba. It built Civil Registration House in several villages of Gori last summer.

“Gormsheni” is famous for its illumination works for New Year holidays and installment of street-illuminations. The company also repaired several rooms in the district administrative office late in 2011.
