Data Akhalaia’s Lawyer Appeals to Chief Prosecutor and Minister of Interior

April 15, 2013

Data Akhalaia’s lawyer appeals to chief prosecutor and Minister of Interior to investigate the information spread in the social network which claims that Data Akhalaia and Megis Kardava are in Georgia.

Lawyer Irakli Zakareishvili reported to Interpresnews that facebook page of one of the youth association spread information as if Data Akhalaia and Megis Kardava (former senior officials who are now declared sought by Georgian law enforcement bodies) are in Zugdidi, created a group of people, collected police uniforms and they intend to organize a provocation at the Abkhazian border on April 19, when National Movement plans the assembly. According to the information, Akhalaia and Kardava plan some provocation against Bidzina Ivanishvili too.

The lawyer said the information is slander and requests to name the source of the aforementioned information. In reply to his request, he was told that former police officer, who supported the National Movement during many years, was the source of the information.

“As soon as I received the reply, I called 112 operator, called patrol police officers and informed them that youth association was spreading the information based on the former police officer. Based on the aforementioned information I requested to launch investigation against the people who spread the information and to interrogate the police officer. Patrol police officers and head of investigation unit told me after a long discussion and negotiations with senior officials on the phone that they would not record my statement in the protocol and suggested me to apply to the Facebook administration if I had any complaints about the information spread by the youth association “Love Georgia,” said Irakli Zakareishvili.

He said the patrol police officers wrote in the protocol that I had refused to sign the protocol and left the area soon.

“I informed the operator of 112 about illegal activities of the patrol police officers (our conversation was recorded) and called hotline of the MIA’s General Inspection too. I informed the duty unit of the MIA about the spread information about plotting the crime and requested them to start investigation though in vain… nobody responded to my reports. In accordance to the Article 100 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Georgia, investigator and prosecutor are entitled to start investigation if they get information about the alleged crime,” the lawyer said.

Data Akhalaia’s lawyer categorically requests to immediately start investigation to study the information spread by the youth association Love Georgia; to estimate and interrogate the people who spread the information; to estimate the source of the information – the MIA officer.

“I am sure if the impartial investigation is launched, the people, who disseminated provocative and slandering information, will be held responsible,” said lawyer Irakli Zakareishvili.
