Workers of Sewing Factory on Strike

July 26, 2013

Maka Malakmadze, Adjara

Workers of the sewing factor BTM went on strike. They request to change the principle of reimbursement and day-off. Factory administration does not plan to satisfy their requests and intends to sue employees at the court.

Mariam Gumbaridze, BTM’s worker: “We want Saturday to be a day-off. It is our lawful right; moreover, we are exhausted. Our second request is to increase salaries. They pay too little for our work.”

Head of the company is not going to satisfy the requests of the workers: “I think the main problem is lack of communication. Employees did not get true information what our company has done for them. We have increased their salaries and reimburse their extra working hours too,” said Tuilin Janbuldu, director general of the sewing factory.

Several brigades of security and patrol officers were mobilized in the area during the demonstration. Security officers of the factory did not allow journalists to enter the territory. The administration locked workers in the yard during four hours and they held the demonstration on the place.

Sewing factory BTM was opened about six years ago and about 600 people work there. Employees had never protested the working conditions there so far.
