About 50 Members Officially Quitted Georgian Dream

August 14, 2013

About 50 members quitted political coalition Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia in Lanchkhuti and joined Nino Burjanadze’s party. Former members of the Coalition said although they left the GD, they still support Bidzina Ivanishvili and his policy and believe that tandem of Burjanadze and Ivanishvili is best way to save the country.

Former member of the Coalition spoke about reasons of quitting GD with humanrights.ge.

“The fact that we left the Coalition does not mean that we no longer support Bidzina Ivanishvili. We join People’s Assembly to support Nino Burjanadze. Weakness of the Coalition’s office in Lanchkhuti compelled us to make similar decision. They have never worked as a Coalition and cannot meet at all; thus they create problems for Ivanishvili and in fact work against him,” said Gia Pirtskhalaishvili, former member of the Coalition Georgian Dream.

“I left the Coalition because such people were appointed to high positions who did not deserve even to be members of the Coalition. I joined the political party from the first day it was founded. Those, who fought for the success of the party, were left in the shadow after elections. For that reason I left Georgian Dream but it does not mean that I do not support Ivanishvili’s policy. I think tandem of Bidzina Ivanishvili and Nino Burjanadze can save the country,” said Zurab Rusidze, another former member of the Coalition who joined People’s Assembly.

Giorgi Chanturia said he protested Georgian Dream’s cohabitation with the National Movement and it became reason of his decision to quit the Coalition.

“I protest the cohabitation. I think cohabitation with criminal regime is inadmissible. I still support Bidzina Ivanishvili but I oppose cohabitation.”

Humanrights.ge contacted Elguja Chkhaidze, leader of the Free Democrats local organization who partly shared the positions of the former members of the Coalition; though he is not going to quit the GD.

“I cannot blame these people in bad behavior. I tried to attract attention of the Coalition members to these people but in vain. We are not right with them; because it is fact members of the National Movement are still running the process. Nobody was punished for the committed crime; they just promised to restore justice,” Elguja Chkhaidze said.

Lanchkhuti district deputy governor Vakhtang Zenaishvili responded to the fact in the social network.

“Who is not with me is my enemy and who does not collect he loses. It is very simple – when you stop supporting Margvelashvili, you stop supporting Ivanishvili too. Do you prefer Burjanadze? It is up to you but you should not deliver such a weak argument [to justify your decision]. Besides that, whom are you running from? Let them go who suppressed you. Or you think that if Burjanadze wins (that is excluded), you will receive high positions in the government? I am sorry for you and you had rather be more patient,” Zenaishvili said.

Former members of the Coalition suppose that the process will continue and few more members will also quit the GD before elections.
