Six police officers arrested for Tamaz Tamazashvili’s case were released from pretrial imprisonment under 1000 lari bail each. Prosecutor Ia Darjania petitioned to the court to change imprisonment with bail. The prosecutor said at the trial that all six accused persons, former police officers of Tbilisi Police Department Givi Kravchenko, Grigol Kvinikadze, Zaza Chaia, Vladimer Gamrekelashvili, Gocha Chitaia and Gocha Bagatrishvili pleaded guilty and cooperated with the investigation. Consequently, the prosecutor solicited for them because accused people are not likely to hinder investigation to obtain evidence because it is already finished.

Defense lawyers and all six accused people agreed with the prosecutor’s solicitation. Judge Larisa Liparteliani at the Tbilisi City Court made decision to release accused people from the courtroom under bail. Each of them has to pay 1000 lari within ten days.

Reportedly, Chief Prosecutor’s Office finished investigation into the criminal case on arbitrary detention of General Tamaz Tamazashvili and cooperation of the detainees significantly promoted the success of the investigation team. Based on these circumstances, prosecutor decided to impose less grave preventive sanction on them.

As for pre-trial hearing on the arbitrary detention of General Tamazashvili, it was scheduled at 11:00 am on August 26. After release, six police officers refrained from making comments with journalists.

On that day, three more people arrested in the same case were released from imprisonment.
