Prisoners State There Is Not So-Called “Supervisors’ Institute” in Penitentiary Establishments

Human Rights Center received a letter from Rustavi semi-closed and semi-open penitentiary establishment # 17, which was signed by 60 inmates of the prison. They protest the information disseminated by TV-Companies and request them to double-check the information before publishing. The convicted people state there is not so-called “supervisors’ institute” in the establishment. Read the prisoners’ statement below:

“TV-companies spread disinformation in the name of inmates of Rustavi Prison # 17 as if so-called supervisors were chasing prisoners with knives. This information is not true and when disseminating this information certain people had concrete malicious purposes aiming at creating controversy between prisoners. We are not demanded to pay money to so-called “collective money-box”; the prison administration controls the situation. We would like to assure you that we are not under any oppression. We are registered in the economic unit of the establishment based on our personal applications and implement our duties properly. You should know that we work here to have some privileges when applying to the Early Release Commission for pardoning. 

 

The prisoners from economic unit of the prison request TV-Companies to double-check the information before dissemination and not to create scandals based on the false information provided by several provocateurs. First of all, we are damaged with this false information and then our family members and relatives worry about us before they get true information. Based on the aforementioned circumstances, we decided to appeal to you with statement and to finally put an end to the United National Movement’s manipulation with our case. Please, we kindly request our citizens and western partners not to believe provocative information.”
