Controversy at Kareli Municipal Board Continues

November 11, 2013

On November 1, Emiko Peikrishvili was dismissed from the position of the interim district deputy governor for the second time; first time the municipal board dismissed him and now interim district governor Zaza Guliashvili; in the past Guliashvili was deputy head of Kareli district police.

Head of the Gori office of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association Ketevan Bebiashvili said dismissal of Peikrishvili was illegal. “The basis for the annulment of the municipal board’s decree was obscure. The competition for the vacant position of the district governor had to take place long before as it is required by the Law on Public Service. Kareli municipal board has already appointed fourth interim governor,” Ketevan Bebiashvili commented on the municipal board’s decision.

After first dismissal, Peikrishvili appealed the court and won the trial; as a result he was restored to his position. Now, he said the motive of his second dismissal is still absurd. “Pre-condition of my dismissal was my cooperation with media on September 9, when I held briefing and publicly spoke about illegal decision of the municipal board,” Emiko Peikrishvili said.

Former deputy head of the Kareli district police and currently interim district governor Zaza Guliashvili fired Peikrishvili from the position of the deputy governor several days after the elections for being late and violation of office regulations: “Peikrishvili was fired from the position in accordance to the law because he did not implement his duties, was permanently late for work and had warned him twice; when he repeated the same third time, I decided to fire him,” Kareli district interim governor Zaza Guliashvili said.

Emiko Peikrishvili is preparing second lawsuit for the court.
