Special Service for Ethnic Minorities is Proposed
Tbilisi. 30.08.04, Media News. The establishment of an Educational Centre working on religious and ethnic issues is proposed for Tbilisi and other regions in Georgia. Together with this, discussions are also taking place to create a co-ordinating service of ethnical minorities along with the Minister’s Cabinet.
Recently, a one-day seminar was held at the Office of the Ombudsman on the topic of the implementation of international standards of the rights of religious and ethnic minorities in Georgia. The organisers were the Office of the Ombudsman and the Representation of the OSCE Mission in Georgia.
The following people attended the meeting: Mr Temur Lomsadze, the Public Defender of Georgia, Ms Iris Mute, the Representative of the OSCE Mission, Mr Alexander Nalbandov, the Advisor of the National Security Council, and representatives of various religious confessions and ethnic minorities.
The participants spoke about religious minorities in Georgia and the legal regulation of their issues, religious extremism and its reasons.
