The Highest Level of Unemployment is Observed in Tbilisi

Tbilisi.29.07.05.MediaNews. According to the official data, the level of unemployment in Georgia has increased for 1,1 percent comparing with 2003 year. In 2004, these data composed 12,6 % by capable of working population.

According to the explanations of the experts of Department of Statistics, in Georgia the level of unemployment has no increasing or decreasing tendency. According to the data of 1998-2004, the level of unemployment ranges between 11and 13 percent.

The information of Department of Statistics reads, that in 2004 the unemployment rate in the urban areas was higher than in rural areas and it composed of 24,3 per cent. In 1997-2004, the level of unemployment in rural areas ranged between 3 and 4 per cents.

By the experts’ explanation, the low level of unemployment in villages is partly defined by self-employment in agronomy. 80 percent of rural population is employed in cultivation and in looking after the cattle.

The highest level of unemployment, traditionally, comes to Tbilisi. This data reached to 26 percent in 2004. The high level of unemployment was fixed in Adjara as well - 17,6 percent. The lowest level of unemployment traditionally is in agronomical regions, such as Guria, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kakheti, which is defined by mass self-employment in.
