Ombudsman Studies Situation in Military Police Detention Centres

Tbilisi, 05.05.06, ‘Media News’ – The Ombudsman of Georgia and his representatives visited Military Police detention centres, where soldiers are imprisoned, in the Mtskheta-Tianeti and Shida Kartli regions.
According to the Ombudsman’s Office, twenty-one prisoners are kept in five cells. The detention centres are equipped with water and electricity and good food and physical exercise are available to the inmates. The representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office met the prisoners in person. According to the inmates, they do not have any problems with the centres administration.

The buildings themselves are quite old and in need of renovation, although the state of hygiene is normal.
