Dedoplistskaro district governor Nikoloz Shanshiashvili seized video-camera from the representative of the Human Rights Center and journalist Gela Mtivlishvili and damaged it. Gela Mtivlishvili recorded the part of the road which was graveled only in three places by the funds allocated within the State Rural Program.

Abkhaz population is minority in the village of Otobaia in Gali district. However, they do not feel themselves different on ethnic grounds. They live like other villagers and have common problems. In the case of necessity, they support their Georgian neighbors.
Court Refused Repressed Citizen to Grant Pension

Lidia Lomtatidze applied to the Human Rights Center for help. Her father Dimitri Lomtatidze was a political victim. Lidia and her brother Anatoli were born when their father was in exile. However, unlike her brother Lidia Lomtatidze cannot receive pension of the repressed person.

“National Movement” Has Huge Success – Old Bureaucracy and Forgotten People in Rustavi

As a result of the municipal elections there are 4 members from the opposition parties and 21 from the National Movement in the Rustavi city council. 20 minutes after the first session started, the electricity went off in the building of City Hall. “More Has to Be Done” – stated the members of the city council from the ruling party. However, the municipal elections have not brought anything new in the government of Rustavi city. The city council elected the same city mayor – Mamuka Chikovani and Kakha Gurgenidze remained in his old position - chairman of the city council.
Teachers Are Already Reduced!

After recent municipal elections it was actively reported that mass reduction of teachers was planned at public schools. On June 17, the minister of education categorically denied the information. “Nobody planed, plans and will plan to reduce teachers at public schools,” said Shashkin. Despite his statement, the directors of public schools have already warned teachers, who have less than 18 working hours, about upcoming reduction process.

“The landslide destroyed my house in the mountainous Adjara region. Here, they settled us in destroyed houses 700 kilometers away from my village. I remember they brought us at night and we could not see anything; there was no electricity. They promised us to shelter into houses with modern reconstruction but my house does not have even a floor; the walls are pulling down. Two days ago the floor broke down and I fell into the basement with my bed; I hardly survived,” said eco-migrant Zhuzhuna Gogitidze who lives in the village of Koreti in Akhmeta district.
No Impunity for Crimes Committed in Georgia

On June 22-24 delegation of the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court conducted a visit in Georgia. The main purpose of the visit was to gather additional information from the Georgian authorities on the on-going national investigation into crimes allegedly committed in the context of the August 2008 armed conflict in South Ossetia, Georgia.

Zugdidi Residents Protest Cutting Down of Trees in the Town

The trees have been actively cut down in Zugdidi for the last several weeks. It caused serious protest of the society and political parties. In the 17th century Prince of Samegrelo Region Levan Dadiani planted many rare trees in Zugdidi. Later, Queen of Samegrelo region Ekaterine Chavchavadze (19th century) decorated her garden in Zugdidi with plants from France; Zugdidi residents are still proud of the garden. Today, the garden is in danger – several tens of hundred-year-old trees were cut down several days ago based on the order of the district administration. They planted expensive trees which were imported from abroad.
“You Are Dead!” – Retired People Victimized by Election Fabrications Cannot Get Their Pensions and “Lives” Back

People are not surprised with paradoxes in Georgia. During every election dead people raise from the dead but apparently we have already put up with it; however we could not imagine that things happened vice versa too. Several retired people from Poti district could not get their pensions because they were not on the list. When they inquired the reasons the reply was astonishing – “you are dead and you cannot get pension.”
Presa.ge Requests Information about Giorgi Barateli from the Supreme Court

The presa.ge filed cassation suit on June 29 and now they will wait for the decision of the Supreme Court – to leave the verdict of the Appeal Court of May 11 in force or to abolish the verdict and order the penitentiary department to release information where Giorgi Barateli serves his term for the murder of Academician Guram Sharadze. Barateli is sentenced to 27-year-imprisonment.
Stalin Verdict for the Statue of Stalin

Gori district municipal board hinders the publicity of the order-document on the dismantling of the Stalin’s Statue in Gori. Before June 25, the day of dismantling, the board members did not discuss the issue at all. The chairman of the board claims they had made decision on June 16. The Human Rights Center has been trying to get hold of the document since June 25 but in vain.

Residents of the village of Sabirkendi in Marneuli district request fair distribution of plots among them. 67-year-old Alik Omarov said that he has been unsuccessfully seeking justice for five years. “Can one man hold the land of 300 families?! Tenant Zahir Gajiev got hold of the land illegally and does not allow us to cultivate the land to earn our living,” said Omarov at the protest demonstration on June 21.
Companies Transferred Money to the National Movement on the Next Day of the Municipal Elections

Different organizations allocated sums to the United National Movement on the next day of the municipal elections. The United National Movement received and spent 14 113 411, 8 GEL for the municipal elections of May 30. It is 20 times more than the fund spent by the Christian-Democrat Movement, which took the second place in the election results and 100 times more than the funding of the Alliance for Georgia for the election campaign.
New Wave of Reforms in Schools

The tension in Kutaisi public schools increases every day. Teachers protest the new initiative of the minister of education. “It is violation of our rights. Why do they think that teachers with only 18 working hours are valuable people for school? Finally, let them tell us that we are not necessary any longer. But they should not send us out of the street and offer new working places,” the teachers start their meetings in every public school of Kutaisi with similar discussions every day.
