There is a video-recording which proves torture of the detainees but offenders are not found yet. Fate of Alan Khugaev, Alan Khachirov and Soltan Pliev is still unclear. De-facto government of South Ossetia blames Georgian law enforcement structures in their disappearance and provides several grounded evidence to prove it – they have video-recording and photo-materials purchased for 500 USD at Georgian prison.

Freedom of Religion Is More Restricted in Georgia

According to the official information, from January 1 till the end of June of 2009, 21 facts of restricted freedom of religion and intolerance occurred in Georgia. Among them 20 cases were related with Jehovah Witnesses. Public Defender of Georgia Giorgi Tughushi thinks that in comparison to previous years the situation in freedom of religion has worsened. According to the public defender, increased number of restricted freedom of religion and intolerance is caused by inadequate reaction of the law enforcement bodies to similar incidents.
Ethnic Armenians Are Not Eager To Work in Public Agencies

The ethnic composition of the population in Akhaltsikhe district is the following: ethnic Georgians make 61, 7 % of the entire population and ethnic Armenians make 36, 59 %. It is most updated data prepared by Jonathan Wilt for his report to the ECMI. According to the census of the statistic department for 2002, 47 % of total 45 948 people living in Akhaltsikhe district were Georgians; Armenians made 42 % and ethnic Russians made 6 %. Based on this data we can suppose the results of elections also rely on this data.

“Change the Environment and not the Person” – this was the message to the governement of persons with disabilities.. The problem of disability is very acute in Georgia. The environment is not adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities. The defenders of the rights of persons with disability say that if the environment is adapted to the needs of disabled persons the problem of disability as such will not exist anymore. They say that persons with disabilities cannot enjoy the same opportunities for education and employment as people with no health related problems. People with disabilities cannot even use public transport because the facilities are not adapted to their needs.
Georgia Joined the Declaration on Eradication of Homophobia and on the Protection of Sexual Minorities

Georgia has joined the declaration of the European Union on the Protection of Sexual Minorities. The project was initiated by the Czech Republic and it was signed by 27 states. Georgia, the Ukraine and Armenia have joined the declaration as well and they took responsibility to act on every case of homophobic discrimination against sexual minorities.

On March 30, the non-governmental organization “Human Rights Center” organized the fifth media club in the “New Art Café” with the support of the Swiss Embassy in Georgia. Foreign diplomats, representatives of international organizations and Georgian journalists took part in the media club. The topic of the meeting was the rights of sexual minorities in Georgia and media coverage of their issues. The speakers at the media club were Paata Sabelashvili, president of the Fund “Inclusive” and Eka Aghdgomelashvili, project manager.
After Dukhobori Now Malakni Leave Georgia

After having withdrawn Dukhobori from Georgia, Russian authority is intending to take Malakni from our country now. As Malakni stated to the Human Rights Center they have been offered residence in Krasnodari Krai in Russian Federation; the invitation was sent by the Ministry of Urgent Situations of Russia. Nowadays Malaknis are busy to prepare their documents for departure. Because of unbearable conditions in Georgia and various problems that originated from ethnic motives hundreds of Malakni have already left Georgia.
